Exodus 14:14
"The Lord will fight for you and there is no need for you to do anything."
In Joshua 6:2, God told Joshua that Jericho was already delivered into his hands - the enemy was already defeated! What confidence Joshua must have had when he went into battle!
Jesus by coming into this world and by His death and resurrection defeated sin, death and satan once and for all (Ref Heb 2:14-15). Therefore we as Christians also fight against a defeated enemy - satan (Ref Rom 8:37-39).
Although we still fight battles everyday and sin runs rampant in the world, we have the assurance that the war (the war for our salvation) has already been won. We do not need any training or special qualification to fight this war. We need not feel paralyzed by the power of a defeated enemy. We can overcome him through Christ's power and grace.
Hence we can gladly sing as part of the army of the Lord:
“I'm too small to
March in the infantry,
Ride on the cavalry,
Shoot the artillery,
I'm too small to
Fly over land and sea,
But I'm in the Lord's Army.
Yes Sir!!!”
